1 Month To Go / The Engine

By Buzz

My long time friend and engine builder, Ron Whitney of R & W Enterprises, completed the rebuild of the 1991 NSX engine with a month to go until the Cannonball. His specs were to lower the compression from the stock 10 to 1 down to 8.5 to 1 in order to add turbo boost. His estimates were that the motor should handle 450 to 500 rear wheel horsepower or about 600 horsepower at the crank with 12 pounds of boost. Ron is an artist as much as a craftsman, and the litany of amazing work he has done is impressive. The NSX engine was stock in appearance, and relatively unassuming. Conversely, the engine he designed to go into the Ford GT40 for the 2004 event was much more representative of his talents. Enclosed are some of the pictures of that GT40 engine for the 2004 event.
